In our first pressure project on the 8th October 2019, I felt the pressure to undertake this task. The project required us to work as part of a team within 6 hours from 9am to 3pm, using a set of lights on location. 6 hours was NOT long enough!
Our original plan was to shoot at an abandoned railway which was an outdoor location, we had all the props and dress to go with this location as planned but, unfortunately the weather did not agree with our plan A. We then have to think of a plan B, it was challenging to find an indoors location for us to do in such limited time; Glasgow city chambers agreed to us to only come up at 6pm but we had to be finished by 3pm and we couldn’t find a parking spot in the centre of Glasgow due to being at peak times.
One of our group member ended up suggesting to do the first shoot in a multi storage car park. We thought it was a good idea up until it comes to viewing the images in the big screen – the location and the model did not tie in, I thought about it too when the idea came up, but it was also worth a try. We went up to the highest car parking space at the top. Oh boy, little did we know the wind blew the soft box off down on the road.
Our second location was also last minute, we went ahead to Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life. The location was amazing, it was of a housing museum set up in different time line such as the Victorian houses which shows the workers’ homes from the 1880s to the 1980s. Each homes were decorated perfectly and it made us feel like we were back in the past. Every little details such as the kitchen’s crockeries and ornaments were added according to the year it was supposed to be.

Anyway… back to the project, we set up the lights in one of the homes. Each of us photographed the model at different angles for us to have different images using different props that were around. I was excited to pose our model beside an old fashioned TV in black and white but, unfortunately the dress was “too up to date” when we came to critique them on the big screen. I had a feeling about that too and knew what was coming.
I was given low marks for the images I submitted from the project, but there was no need to get all upset. It was a good experience on working as part of a group on location outside college and I will take the feedback onboard for our next pressure project.
